About Miguel Tio

Miguel Tio Miguel Tio, was born in the Dominican Republic, began his studies of painting with the Dominican artist Elias Delgado As well as the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes. His interest in Publicity and Graphic Design led him into continuing studies at the “Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo.
A move to New York in 1994 led him to Izquierdo Studio Ltd. for film and Television Production, windows display, opera and theater, which had a great influence on his artwork. Since 2005 he is working as an art teacher for Studio in a School and in 2006 he started to study the Mische technique with the world-wide known artist Brigid Marlin.

He describes the philosophy behind his paintings on his statement:

!think it is important when an artwork reflects the inner voice of the artist, but it is even more crucial when it reflects the voices of the ones that are crying out for peace and the ones that don’t have any. In a world where there are so many urgent transformations to be done, art can helps to produce those transformations by touching the cords on the soul of the observer, making them vibrate or perhaps sometimes by just leaving a seed that will germinate in the future…And that is the mission that I aim to accomplish in each one of my paintings.

Miguel Tio has done six solo shows, being Unseen Sides at Gallerie Icosahedron in NYC on 2006 and Memories and Dreams at Williamsburg Art & Historical Center in Brooklyn, NY the latest.
