Artist's Description

This is a painting that I have been working for a few year about my great grandfather Emeterio Sanchez (1866-922) who, in 1916 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic "Repeatedly dove into the water to rescue U.S. sailors, facing great threat to his own life. Without his efforts, historians agree that many more lives would have been lost.

In later years thanks to the internet, I learned more about him.

Miguel Tio

Miguel Tio, was born in the Dominican Republic, began his studies of painting with the Dominican artist Elias Delgado As well as the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes. His interest in Publicity and Graphic Design led him into continuing studies at the “Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo. A move to New York in 1994 led him to Izquierdo Studio Ltd. for film and Television Production, windows display, opera and theater, which had a great influence on his artwork. Since 2005 he is working as an art teacher for Studio in a School and in 2006 he started to study the Mische technique with the world-wide known artist Brigid Marlin.
